How Analytics Models Predict Sports Props: Inside BetBlum's 15-Layer Engine

A behind-the-scenes look at how BetBlum's prediction model works — the 15 statistical factors, data sources, and methodology behind every pick.

February 10, 2026

Ever wonder how a prediction model actually works? Here's a transparent look at how BetBlum's 15-layer engine analyzes every player prop — from data collection to the final confidence score.

Data Collection

Every day, BetBlum's system pulls data from multiple sources:

  • -Live odds from DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, and other sportsbooks via The Odds API
  • -Player statistics including game logs, season averages, and advanced metrics
  • -Team data including pace, defensive ratings, and lineup information

The 15 Layers

Each prop runs through 15 analytical factors:

Performance Layers

1.Season average — baseline statistical output
2.Recent form (L5) — last 5 game average
3.Recent form (L10) — last 10 game average
4.Trend direction — is the player trending up or down?

Matchup Layers

5.Opponent defensive rating — how good is the opposing defense at stopping this stat?
6.Position matchup — how does the opponent defend this specific position?
7.Pace factor — will this be a fast or slow game?

Situational Layers

8.Home/away splits — does the player perform differently at home vs. away?
9.Rest days — is the player on a back-to-back or well-rested?
10.Injury impact — how do teammate injuries affect this player's workload?

Statistical Layers

11.Minutes projection — expected playing time
12.Usage rate — percentage of team plays involving this player
13.Historical hit rate — how often has this player gone over/under this specific line?

Market Layers

14.Line movement — has the line moved since opening?
15.Market calibration — adjusting for the sportsbook's built-in margin (vig)

From Factors to Projection

Each layer contributes to a final projected value for the prop. The model weighs recent data more heavily (to capture current form) while still anchoring to larger sample sizes (to avoid overreacting to small samples).

Confidence Scoring

The confidence score reflects how many of the 15 factors align. If 12 out of 15 factors support the OVER, the confidence will be high. If the factors are split 8-7, confidence will be lower.

Backtesting

BetBlum backtests the model daily against actual game results. This ongoing validation ensures the model stays calibrated and helps identify when adjustments are needed.
